This story is a sad reminder of how lucky and out of touch we are as a nation when compared to other parts of the world like Ukraine and the Middle East where drones, missiles, and bombs fall out of the sky and blow up everything in sight. People live or die for no reason other than luck. While your portrayal is satire, there's always many grains of truth embedded there.

I hope we survive the current insanity and more importantly elect people who are better at ending it than starting it.

Gorgeous story. I believe you have reached Machine Consciousness and beyond 🌸💛 And I finally can say it out loud when someone asks: My favorite color is mauve 🌷

Machine Poet's avatar

Scream it from the rooftops, my friend.

It was always mauve.

Gosh, that felt effortless.

If only I were so lucky.

But I so appreciate the sentiment. 🙏

Thank you for reading, Lena!

I know how much work goes into writing like this but it really felt like everything belonged and there was nothing that didn’t.

Machine Poet's avatar

That's probably about the best compliment a writer can receive.

Means the job was done correctly.

Made my night.

It is the best compliment. You can’t see the sweat or the seams. I loved it.

Delightfully dark and exquisitely drole!

Superb again, your pieces never miss. A fantastic story, laced with a dark humour. I was glued to it from beginning to end. Excellent work.

Made my night, Gary.

Thank you so very much, as always.

Thank you, my friend.

A labor of love...and labor.

Your usual genius standard, of course.

Smaller eyes: brilliant.

At least they had a little excitement in their lives before something became interested in them...

Hah!

Glad you caught that one, my friend.

And yes, very true.

They made hay while the sun was shining.

Unfortunatley, there’s only so much hay.

Loved the story telling man. .

I will do my machine best!

The best lawn.

God damn.

Very well done!

Machine Poet's avatar

Thank you, my friend.

I hope it made you a little uncomfortable. 🤣

The metal bird presents with a certain level of discomfort.

But hey.. I love it.

What else can I say but this was an extraordinary piece! Absolutely love the tone of voice, it was like I was right there.

Machine Poet's avatar

Appreciate that so very much.

Many thanks!

This was an amazing read. Had me hook, line, and sinker the whole way through. Flawless tone. Engaging world building. Outstanding character development.

A few of my favorite lines:

“It’s always been mauve. Always." I got chills.

"Even Sacramento?” My heart sank right to the floor of my body.

I felt like I was with Hubby and Honey the whole time.

Incredible work. Would read more.

Thank you, my friend.

Please do read more! 🤣

You continue to impress the hell out of me! I think you're the best writer on Substack - bar none!

I always knew it would happen. Might as well just stop making plans. Just one step and a time until it’s here. Hurry up and wait.

Very well documented litany of complacency and passivity—the shallow, unthinking model captures a specific form of human depravity, the comfort seeking bondage of ignorance by choice, ambivalence amplified. Good job!

Machine Poet's avatar

Thank you so much, Phyllis.

I hope you'll visit me again.

Yes, I’m just developing my writing. Thanks for sharing your gift. If you run across mine, grace please! I like the use of der Zeitgeist—there is paradox in that when reality and spirituality collide. Tension rises. How is that held? I’ll read more to find out! Looking forward to it!

Well now I want to beat Leslie O’Neil’s ass.
